History
This malt extract brewpub was opened by The Whitbread Beer Company in August 1981. Brewing ceased a couple of years later but was restarted in March 1993. Brewing ceased when it was considered to be uneconomic in 1995. The 2½BBL plant was sold the Sawbridgeworth Brewery.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
