History
A chain of brewpubs initially launched in 1979. Beer was often badged as coming from Bruce's Brewery, after the founder David Bruce. They were sold in 1988 to Midsummer Leisure and changed hands a number of times until being taken over in 1991 by Allied Breweries. Following this takeover there was a veritable explosion of Firkin pubs; many, however, did not brew but received their beer from another nearby Firkin. All breweries were closed during October 1999 following the take-over of Allied Domecq tied estate by Punch Taverns.
The brewpubs were as follows.
Fieldmouse & Firkin at the Fighting Cocks
Flamingo & Firkin (Kingston upon Thames)
Footage & FirkinPhantom & Firkin (Loughborough)

We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website. For historical information, we suggest you also visit the brewery page on the unfortunately no longer updated Beermad.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all areas possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the counties for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
