History
Brewing at this site commenced in 1699. By 1842 it had fallen into the hands of the Fullers and soon after Messers Smith and Turner had joined the brewery. Took over George Gale & Co. Ltd in November 2005. In January 2019, it was taken over by Asahi UK Ltd.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
