History
Brewing commenced in Summer 1989 in an old fish smokehouse. It was taken over in March 1994. For a period from 1996 Stocks Brewery beers were brewed under license. Brewery closed during the latter part of 2001, however the beers were reportedly being brewed under contract by 'Elgood & Sons Ltd for a period. The brewing equipment was sold to Freeminer Ltd.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
