History

Brewing started in August 1995 using a 1BBL plant based at the Bitter End, 15 Kirkgate, Cockermouth. During 1996 a larger brewery was set up to brew the beers for the free trade however in 1997 this set up as a separate brewery as Derwent Brewery. For a period during the early part of 2001 brewing ceased at the pub and the beers were being contract brewed by Derwent. Beer was being produced at the pub again by October 2001. During late 2004 a new 2BBL plant was installed and the existing 1BBL plant sold to become the Old Bog Brewery. During September 2009 the brewery moved to its current location. The brewery closed in Summer 2011 and the plant was sold on to Tap East.

Beers Brewed

We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website. For historical information, we suggest you also visit the brewery page on the unfortunately no longer updated Beermad.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all areas possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the counties for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
