History
Founded in 1819 it was taken over by Robinsons in 1982 and brewing ceased in 1994. All Hartley brands are now brewed in Stockport. The plant was sold to Black Sheep.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
