History
The brewery that became Benskin's started brewing about 1720, moving to their High Street brewery around 1820. It became Benskin's in 1867. It was purchased by Ind Coope Ltd in 1957. Brewing ceased in Watford in 1972. Production of a product claiming to be Benskin's Best Bitter continued at a number of Allied Breweries plants. Production ceased in early 2002, at which point the beer was brewed by Molson Coors Brewing Company (UK) Limited for AB Inbev UK Limited at their Burton-upon-Trent plant.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
