History
Brewery opened in 1838. It was acquired by Samuel Webster in 1860 and renamed. It was acquired by Watney Mann and in 1985 merged with Wilson's;. By then part of Scottish Courage the brewery was closed in 1996. Their beers are now brewed at Scottish Courage's John Smith's plant.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
