History
The hotel chain Grand Metropolitan purchased the brewing interests of Watney's in the early 1980s. In 1991 they entered into a swap with Courage Ltd whereby they took control of the pubs and Courage brewed their beer. The pubs became the Intrepreneur Estate.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
