History
Founded in the late 1700s, this brewery was purchased by Thomas Strong in 1883. It was brought by Whitbread in 1969. Brewing ceased in 1980 with production transferred to Flowers. Production of the Strong brand was contracted out to Morrells until production of the brand was ceased in about 1997. In 1999 the brand was recreated by Hampshire Brewery under agreement with Whitbread.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
